When working at LMU, my research interest was in computer-based approaches to complex biological systems, and *systems biology* remains an active side-interest in my work. I am also a member of the Munich Systems Biology Forum.

Projects

• Monte Carlo network inference for Gaussian processes

  Network inference means finding a (sparse) network to most simply explain observed data. We use a Monte Carlo process from computational physics to optimize a network of correlations between gene expression data.

• Soft clustering and multidimensional scaling

  We map gene expression data to points in a plane to express similarities and differences in such a way that relationships between the data become visible.

• Function prediction using Markov random fields

  In this project with Joannis Apostolakis, we are looking at recently published protein-protein interaction networks to evaluate how protein functions can be predicted from these interactions.
