Currently, I am focusing on improving the services at EMDB to provide better visualization and analysis capabilities. A particular interest of mine is to develop improved quality assessment algorithms, and to use grid/cloud computing and storage to apply these algorithms to real-world data.

My general research was on intelligent methods to process electron-microscopic images of macromolecules and cells. We tried to incorporate recent developments in bioinformatics such as machine learning and probabilistic methods into image processing algorithms.

I am also active in software development for algorithmic image processing research, in particular using the Python/C++ platform on parallel high-performance computer such as our old SGI Prism in Martinsried.
